Perhaps the most celebrated Chinese women of the 21st century, Ziyi Zhang was born on February 9, 1979 in Beijing, China. Her father is an economist while her mother is a kindergarten teacher. She had an older brother, which together they grow up in the working community of Beijing. Ziyi Zhang loved gymnastics and dancing when she was young. This sexy and energetic Chinese actress worked hard even at an early age.

The young Ziyi Zhang left home at 11 to stay in a dance school affiliated to Beijing Dancing College. However, she found the competition among girls unhealthy which she didn't like. She escaped from school which had the police and her teachers looking for her while she was hiding in a grass thicket. Ziyi Zhang came out from her hiding as soon as she heard her mother's voice though. Despite all this, Miss Ziyi still managed to snatch an award some awards including one from National Young Dancer Competition.

However, Ziyi Zhang finally get tired of dancing at the age of 15 and decided to try her luck with acting. Miss Ziyi enrolled in Central Drama Academy in Beijing where she honed her acting skills. Ziyi Zhang later on auditioned for a shampoo commercial directed by director Zhang Yimou who used to use his commercials as an auditioned for a role in his upcoming films. The director cast Miss Ziyi in the award winning film called The Road Home in 1999. The film is about a young rural Chinese teacher who went far and wide to search for her student who runs away from his village to find job in the city. The young Chinese showed a very promising performance then and it is only a matter of time before Zhang will spread her wings and conquer Hollywood.

Ang Lee was mesmerized by Ziyi Zhang's performance in The Road Home that he knew she was the right actress to play the role of hot but lethal Jen Yu in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000. This film won four Academy Awards and earned $130million at the box office. In 2001, Ziyi Zhang played a villain in the sequel of Rush Hour opposite Hollywood actor Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan.

Other films that the sexy Chinese, Ziyi Zhang, did include, The Warriors, Legend of Zu, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, and Memoirs of a Geisha.

Ziyi Zhang received numerous awards and nominations from Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror Films USA, BAFTA Awards, Chicago Film Critics Association Awards, Golden Globes, Hong Kong Film Awards, Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards, MTV Movie Awards, and many more.
