Venessa Paradis was born Vanessa Chanta Paradis on the 22nd of December 1972 in Val de Marne, France. She was discovered in 1980 in the French television show L’ Ecole de fans. Five years after she made her recording debut in her single La Magie des surprises-parties. Although the single was not a hit this led to her hit song Joe le Taxi. This was in 1987 when she was just 14 years old. The song reached the top of the charts in France and was later on released in the United Kingdom where it landed in the number 3 in the charts. The song was a cut from the album M&J which in itself reached number 13 in France though it failed to tops in the United Kingdom.

In 1992, when Vanessa was 19 she worked, with her then boyfriend, rock artist Lenny Kravitz. She started working on her new album which was produced and was written by Kravitz. Their collaboration created the album Vanessa Paradis. It reached the top of the French chart and made it to UK charts top 100. The single from the album, Be My Baby, made it to # 5 in France and # 6 in the UK hit list.

After the success of her album she appeared in several films in 1995. She was seen in La Fille sur le pont opposite Daniel Auteuil and in 2004 she was seen in Mon Ange. In 1991, she became the commercial model of Channel for Coco. And again in 2004 she became Channel’s ad model for its line of bags named Ligne Cambon. At present she is Channel’s ad model for its handbag The New Mademoisell. She has also just recently released her new album Divinidylle and will appear in the films Le Soldat Rose and La Clef.

Her other studio albums include Variations Sur Le Même T'aime, released in 1990 and reached France’s # 6 in the charts and Bliss, released in 2000 and reached France’s # 1 in the charts. Her live albums included Live Vanessa Paradism released in 1994 and reached # 7 in France charts and Au Zenith, released in 2001 and reached the # 19 in France charts.

In France, her hit singles are "Joe Le Taxi, Manolo Manolete, Marilyn & John, Maxou, Coupe Coupe, Tandem, Dis Lui Toi Que Je T'aime, Be My Baby, Sunday Mondays, Commando and Divine Idylle.
