Sarah Michelle Gellar was born on April 14, 1977 in New York City. She is the only child of a nursery school teacher Rosellen and a garment worker, Arthur. Raised in a Jewish household, Sarah Michelle Gellar was brought up by her mother when her parents divorced in 1984. Since then, she became estranged with her father until his death in 2001. Sarah Michelle Gellar attended Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School and Professional Children’s School with straight A’s.

At age 4, when eating in a restaurant in Uptown Manhattan, Sarah Michelle Gellar was spotted by an agent and asked to audition for a role in “An Invasion of Privacy”. She impressed the directors, giving her a role in the made-for-tv movie. After the film, she appeared in a Burger King TV ad wherein she criticized McDonald’s while claiming to eat only at Burger King. The TV commercial led to controversies and eventually a lawsuit against Burger King, Geller’s agency and Sarah Michelle Gellar herself. She continued to receive numerous commercial and film offers.

In 1992, Sarah Michelle Gellar got her major break when she played in “Swans Crossing” and followed by a role in a daytime drama “All My Children”. In 1995, the eighteen-year-old Sarah Michelle Gellar won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Leading Actress in a Drama Series. She left the show in 1995, but soon landed her own TV series, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, which was well received by both the audiences and critics. The show aired 144 episodes.

Aside from a TV career, Sarah Michelle Gellar also appeared in several popular movies, including the 1997 thrillers “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “Scream 2”. She also starred in a romantic comedy film, “Simply Irresistible” and a romantic drama, “Cruel Intentions”. In 2001, she appeared in the movie, “Harvard Man” and followed by the 2002 “Scooby Doo” movie.

In 2004, Sarah Michelle Gellar appeared in the American version of the horror film, “The Grudge” and its sequel “The Grudge 2” in 2006. She then appeared in another thriller movie, “The Return” and switched to animation films, “Happily N’ Ever After” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is married to actor Freddie Prinze, Jr., whom she met in the filming of “I Know What You Did” in 1997. However, they only dated in 2000, engaged in April 2001 and married on September 1, 2002 in Mexico.
