Due to her fathers art connections, Rose McGowan had the opportunity to model and appear in Vogue Bambini, among other Italian magazines. At age 10, Rose McGowan along with her family, returned to the United States when her parents divorced. They then moved to Oregon and settled in Washington. Upon their arrival in the U.S., Rose McGowan did not speak English. She attended Roosevelt High School and Nova Alternative High School.
At age 16, Rose McGowan separated from her parents and pursued a career in acting while balancing classes in beauty school. Her first small role was in the 1992 film, Encino Man, but the movie The Doom Generation led to a wider audience and recognition. When Rose McGowan was cast as the lead characters best friend in the 1996 horror movie, Scream, she was offered with several independent films including, Southie, Lewis & Clark & George and Going All the Way.
Rose McGowan featured in the critically acclaimed Seed in 1997 and the 1998 film adaptation of Phantoms. In 1999, she won a supporting role in the comedy film, Jawbreaker, where she won Best Villain at the 1999 MTV Movie Awards. In 2001, she was offered the role of Paige Matthews in the TV series, Charmed as a replacement to Shannen Doherty and became a regular cast until the series ended in May 2006. Other films credited to Rose McGowan include Elvis, The Black Dahlia, Grindhouse and Black Oasis.
Rose McGowan used to date rocker Marilyn Manson for five years. She often appeared with Manson in provocative clothing. She eventually ended their two-year engagement due to lifestyle differences. She also dated actor Kip Pardue, Ahmet Zappa, David Zinczenko and Robert Rodriguez.
While she was dating Marilyn Manson, Rose McGowan appeared in the music video of the song Coma White. She also performed back up vocals in the song Posthuman, which are both available in Mansons album, Mechanical Animals. She has also written and recorded a song called Protection, which was featured on her 2001 film, Strange Hearts. In the movie Grindhouse, Rose McGowan will be performing three songs, Useless Talent #32, You Belong To Me and Two Against the World.
