Rosario Dawson was born on Mary 9, 1979 in New York City. Her mother Isabel is a professional vocalist with Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican ancestry, while her father Greg is a construction worker of Irish and Native American ancestry. Rosario Dawson, along with her brother Clay, was raised in the lower east side of Manhattan. Most of their childhood, Rosario’s family squatted in an abandoned building.

As a kid, Rosario Dawson aspired to become a marine biologist, but shifted dreams when filmmaker Larry Clark saw her around Manhattan and asked her to be part of his film, “Kids”. Because she had a natural talent in acting, she was praised for her role and eventually pursued a career in acting.

She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Since her big break, she has worked with notable directors such as Robert Rodriguez, Oliver Stone, Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino and Spike Lee. She has appeared with renowned actors like Edward Norton, Clive Owen, Will Smith and Colin Farrel.

Rosario Dawson has a variety of films in her portfolio, ranging from big-budget blockbusters to independent films. She has appeared in “Men in Black II”, “He Got Game”, “The Adventures of Pluto Nash”, as well as the movie adaptation of “Josie and the Pussycats”.

In 2004, Rosario Dawson appeared in the Oliver Stone film, “Alexander”, which was her first on-screen nude love scene. In 2005, she also played Julia in a Public Theatre revival of “The Two Gentleman of Verona” in Central Park.

She then starred in the musical film, “Rent”. Rosario Dawson also featured in the Rob Zombie film, “The Devil’s Rejects” and the 2006 film “Clerks II”. She portrayed a prostitute in the graphic novel, “Sin City”. Rosario Dawson is planned to reappear in the sequel of Sin City in 2008.

Aside from her Hollywood films, Rosario Dawson also teamed up with the musician Prince for the revival of the 1980s hit, “1999”. She also appeared in one of The Chemical Brothers’ music video for the song, “Out of Control”. Rosario Dawson was also featured in the Outkast song “She Lives in my Lap”, where she lent her voice in narrating the intro and interlude.

Rosario Dawson dated Jason Lewis, Eli Roth, and Andrea Boccaletti. She was also linked to Joshua Jackson and Jay-Z.
