Born as Renee Kathleen Zellweger on April 25, 1969 in Baytown Texas, she is daughter of a Swiss-born engineer father (Emil Enrich Zellweger) and a Norwegian-born nurse mother, Kjellfried Irene. Renee Zellweger was raised in a family of Episcopalians and Catholics. She participated in school activities and was a gymnast, cheerleader and a member of the drama club. Renee Zellweger attended Katy High School until 1987 and pursued a major in English at the University of Texas. During her college years, Renee supported herself financially by working as a waitress in local restaurants.

After college, Renee Zellweger transferred to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Although she appeared in several movies such as “Empire Records”, “Reality Bites”, “The Whole Wide World”, “8 Seconds” and “Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, it was when Renee Zellweger won the lead role in the 1996 film “Jerry Maguire” did she became widely known to audiences worldwide.

Since her major breakthrough in “Jerry Maguire”, Renee Zellweger won numerous roles in films like “One True Thing” costarring Meryl Streep and “Nurse Betty” alongside Morgan Freeman, which won her three Golden Globe Awards.

In 2001, Renee Zellweger won the leading role in the film, “Bridget Jones’ Diary”. With this movie, she had to portray an English and chubby girl that was attracted to her boss, played by Hugh Grant. Renee Zellweger had to gain remarkable weight because she was too skinny to play the part. She also received voice coaching for a proper English accent.

The following year, Renee Zellweger starred alongside Michelle Pfeiffer in “White Oleander” and in “Chicago” opposite Richard Gere and Catherine Zeta Jones among others. She won a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination. It was only in 2004 that Renee received her very first Academy Award as “Best Supporting Actress” in the movie, “Cold Mountain”.

She regained the necessary weight when she starred in the sequel to Bridget Jones’ Diary in “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason”. She also played in the 2005 “Cinderella Man”, in the 2006 movie “Miss Potter” and lent her voice in the animated film, “Shark Tale”.

Renee Zellweger dated Sims Ellison, Josh Pate, George Clooney, Jim Carrey and Jack White (from The White Stripes). She married singer Kenny Chesney on May 9, 2005. However, four months later, the couple announced their plan for annulment, which was finalized in December of that same year.
