Born as Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon on March 22, 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Reese Witherspoon is daughter of a U.S. lieutenant colonel John Witherspoon and a college professor, Betty. Raised in an Episcopalian religion, Reese Witherspoon stayed in Germany for four years when her father worked for the US military, but soon settled in Nashville Tennessee, where she graduated from Harpeth Hall School. She pursued a literature major in Stanford University. However, she only completed a year in college before Reese Witherspoon decided to pursue an acting career.

The first role Reese Witherspoon won was in a made-for-television film called “Wildflower”, costarring Patricia Arquette. At age 15, Reese attended an audition for a role in the movie, “The Man in the Moon”. Instead of winning a small role that she intended to play, she won the lead role, immediately capturing fans and critics alike. After her debut role, Reese Witherspoon appeared in several drama and comedy films, including “Jack the Bear”, “A Far Off Place”, “S.F.W.” and “Freeway”, which won her a Best Actress Award at the Cognac Festival du Film Policier.

In 1998 to 2000, Reese Witherspoon appeared in several successful films, including “Pleasantville”, “Twilight, Overnight Deliver”, “Best Laid Plans”, “Cruel Intentions”, “Election” and “American Psycho”. She also played small roles in “Little Nicky” and guest-starred in the comedy series, “Friends” as Rachel Green’s little sister.

In 2001, after a couple of cameo appearances, Reese Witherspoon landed a leading role as Elle Woods in a comedy film, “Legally Blonde”, which led to her breakthrough as a lead actress. She earned her second Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress and gave way to various film offers including “The Importance of Being Earnest”, “Sweet Home Alabama”, “Legally Blonde 2”, “Vanity Fair” and “Just Like Heaven”.

In 2005, Reese Witherspoon earned much critical praise from her role as June Carter Cash in the film, “Walk the Line”. She won several Best Actress Awards for the Golden Globe, NYFCC, FFCC, SFFCC, Screen Actor’s Guild, BAFTA, People’s Choice Award and Academy Award. Due to her success and critical fame, she has been featured in Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.

Reese Witherspoon married to actor Ryan Phillippe in June 5, 1999 at a plantation in South Carolina. The couple has two children, a daughter named Ava Elizabeth and a son, Deacon. However, in November 8, 2006, Witherspoon filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
