Raquel Welch was born on September 5, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois to Armando Carlos Tejada Urquizo and Josephine Sarah Hall. Her father was a Bolivian aerospace engineer while her mother was an Irish American, making her mix truly unique and gifting her with exotic beauty. Her real name is Jo Raquel Tejada, and was a celebrity icon during the 60’s and 70’s, and known mostly for being a sex goddess and pin-up girl. They had moved to San Diego when she was only two years old, and her potential as a beauty queen was noticed even when Raquel Welch was still a child, as she has already started joining and winning beauty contests as a teenager. She attended the La Jolla High School in San Diego.

Aside from beauty contests, Raquel Welch also dabbled in dancing lessons and the theater. She attended the San Diego State College in 1958 where she was lucky enough to be granted a scholarship. It was also around this time that she met and married James Welch, her first husband, of which she had two children with and divorced shortly after in 1964. She has one son and one daughter with him, Damon, and Tahnee. Raquel Welch’s responsibilities as a mother did not allow her much time to finish college so she quit and engaged in various jobs to support herself and her children.

Raquel Welch became a weather girl in a San Diego television station for a while, and then decided to move to Dallas Texas. It was in Texas where she started modeling for Neiman Marcus, as well as waiting tables for extra income. Shortly after, she moved to Los Angeles with the intention of landing some acting jobs. Raquel Welch auditioned and her effort came to fruition with landing roles in television shows such as Bewitched, The Hollywood Palace, The Virginian, and McHale’s Navy. She continued to act; this time in small movies, such as A House is Not a Home in 1964, Do Not Disturb in 1965, and Roustabout. But it was her role in A Swingin Summer that led 20th Century Fox to finally notice her and got her to sign a contract.

Under contract with 20th Century Fox, Raquel Welch starred in One Billion B.C., and her acting career went full speed ahead. She starred in the science fiction movie, Fantastic Voyage, in 1966, and followed by many roles that required her to be in quite minimal outfits as Raquel Welch was best known for her bikini clad characters. Fast forward to the 1980’s, Raquel Welch married Andre Weinfeld, her third husband, and wrote the Raquel Welch Total Beauty and Fitness Program. She endorsed health and nutritious eating to millions around the world.

Up to this day, Raquel Welch is still considered one of the most famous icons in American film history.
