Paulina Porizkova was born in the Czech Republic on April 9, 1965. Her family left Czechoslovakia in 1968 and moved to Sweden, and left her to be raised by her grandmother. Paulina Porizkova and her family went through a battle for her care with the Czech government that lasted seven years until she could finally be reunited with her family. She was living with poverty for many years in Sweden.

In 1980, a photographer took some photos of Paulina Porizkova, and sent them to the Elite Modeling Agency. She was 5’10, and her chiseled features and beauty caught the attention of John Casablancas, head of the Elite Modeling Agency. He then offered her a ticket to Paris, and she saw it as her way out of a struggling life in Sweden. During her time in Paris, Paulina Porizkova rose to being one of the top models and one of the most beautiful women in the world. Her big break came when she posed for the Sports Illustrated cover in 1984.

Paulina Porizkova appeared in the cover of Playboy Magazine a few years later, as well as GQ. The issues sold several thousand copies. In 1987, she starred in her first film, Anna, and the film received positive reviews. She also starred in other movies, Her Alibi in 1989, and Arizona Dream with Johnny Depp in 1992. Paulina Porizkova also became the face of Estee Lauder cosmetics, in a dream contract worth six million dollars. The ad campaign made her a sophisticated, top class model.

In 1989, Paulina Porizkova wed Ric Ocasek, and they had two children. She gave birth to their first son in 1993, after which she stayed away from the limelight for a while so she could focus on her family. After a few year, she started acting for independent films. Paulina Porizkova also got a contract for Escada, and started modeling again. In 2004, she starred in another movie, Knots. She also appeared in Victoria’s Secret Lingerie in 2005.

Recently, Paulina Porizkova just finished writing a book entitled, A Model Summer. She has also written a children’s book called The Adventures of Ralphie the Roach. Paulina Porizkova was also slated to appear in Dancing with the Stars although she was voted off the first season. She also holds a dual citizenship with the United States and Sweden. Paulina Porizkova enjoys playing classical piano during her spare time.
