Nicole Camille Escovedo was born on September 21, 1981 in Berkeley California. Her biological mother worked for Lionel Richie as his backstage assistant. During a Prince concert, where Nicole’s biological mother was part of the wardrobe group, Lionel Richie saw Nicole playing tambourine on stage. Lionel first became a Nicole’s guardian, but later adopted her.

At two years old, Nicole moved to Lionel and wife Brenda’s house. The couple raised Nicole as their daughter. It was only until Nicole was nine when she legally became Nicole Richie. Since three years old, Nicole has been attending weekly sessions with a psychotherapist. However, when Lionel’s affair became a highly publicized split, both Lionel and Brenda indulged Nicole with everything she wanted.

Nicole Richie’s godmother is Nancy Davis, while her godfathers are Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson. As a girl, Nicole Richie studied eight years of figure skating and took up cello, guitar, piano and violin lessons. She attended kindergarten at The Buckley School, where she met Paris Hilton. In 2000, Nicole Richie graduated from Montclair College Preparatory School and pursued Arts and Media at the University of Arizona for two years. She dropped out of college and focused on her career in Hollywood.

In 2003, Nicole Richie alongside Paris Hilton signed in the reality TV series, “The Simple Life”. During its first season, the two lived for an entire month with a family in the rural community of Arkansas. The show launched in December 2 and received high ratings of 13 millions viewers. During its second season, “The Simple Life 2: Road Trip”, Nicole Riche and Paris traveled the Southern part of U.S. driving a pink pick-up truck, while living in a trailer. Without any money, credit cards or mobile phones, they have to stay with various families and earn a living by doing ordinary jobs.

The Simple Life continued on its third year, “The Simple Life 3: Interns”, and an E! production during its 4th year, “The Simple Life 4: Til Death Do Us Part”. The latest “Simple Life Goes to Camp” was launched in May 2007. Although Nicole Richie is a producer of the show, the Simple Life will not be renewed for the 6th season.

Nicole Richie wrote a semi-autobiographical fictional book, “The Truth About Diamonds”, which became one of the best selling books in 2005. She is planning to release another book, a style guide. She has modeled for Bongo Jeans, Jimmy Choo and Diet Dr. Pepper. She has a makeup line in Japan, an accessories line in the U.S. and plans to launch a sunglass line.

Nicole Richie has dated Elijah Blue Allam, Brody Jenner, Brad Salyn and Adam Goldstein. She is dating Joel Madden of the rock band, Good Charlotte. The couple is expecting a baby and has are reportedly engaged.
