Molly Ringwald was born right outside Sacramento, California, on February 18, 1968. Her father is a blind jazz artist, Robert Scott Ringwald, and her mother Adele Edith is a housewife. She is the youngest of two siblings: older brother Kelly, and older sister Elizabeth. Molly Ringwald used to do singing performances with her father’s jazz band when she was four years old, just before she started acting. She studied at the Bella Vista High School.

Molly Ringwald first started acting on stage, with her first production being The Grass Harp, when she was five years old. In 1997, she was hosting The New Mickey Mouse Club and had done several stage plays as well as commercials. Being no stranger to acting, she took on roles for television series. Molly Ringwald first started appearing in the television series The Facts of Life, for one year. She was dropped from the show, although this paved the way for more opportunities both in acting and singing.

In 1982, she played Miranda in the Paul Mazursky adaptation of The Tempest, singing an unforgettable rendition of Why Do Fools Fall In Love. Prior to that, she also sang for Disney albums, one was a patriotic one and another, a Christmas special. Molly Ringwald got her big break in 1984 when she was cast the role of Samantha in Sixteen Candles. The story revolves around the 16th birthday of Samantha whose whole family forgets that it is her birthday because of preparations for her older sister’s wedding. The movie got Molly Ringwald recognition and made her an instant favorite for audiences of all ages.

Molly Ringwald then had a string of well loved movies, such as 1985’s The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink in 1986. During the eighties, Molly Ringwald was on the list of Hollywood’s top teenage celebrities. Unfortunately, the roles cast to her afterwards were all flops: The Pick-Up Artist, For Keeps, and Betsy’s Wedding. She moved to the small screen, starring in the television movie Something to Live for: The Alison Gertz Story, and on the television series Townies.

Molly Ringwald then moved to Paris in 1991 with her companion Valery Lameignere, who is a writer. During her stay there, she has also appeared in French films such as Seven Sundays in 1994. She then came back to film the series The Stand, which was based on Stepehen King’s novel. Molly Ringwald starred in more films such as Since You’ve Been Gone and Not Another Teen Movie, as well as other Broadway productions such as Modern Orthodox.

In 2003, Molly Ringwald gave birth to a daughter named Mathilda Ereni. The father of the child is Panio Gianopoulos. She is also fluent in French, as she studied at the Lycee Francaise School while she was in Los Angeles and this came in handy while she lived in France for a few years.
