Michelle Yeoh was born Dato Michelle Yeoh Choo-Kheng on the 6th of August 1962 in Ipoh, Malaysia. She is one of Malaysia’s most famous actresses and was one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in the World in 1997. She is Michelle Khan in some of her film credits.

Michelle was interested in ballet. At the age of four she begun studying for ballet and at the age of 15 she went to England and later enrolled at the London Royal Academy of Dance with a major in Ballet. However she sustained a spinal injury which forced her to focus her passion to other arts. Consequently, she got a Bachelor of Arts degree major in Creative Arts and minor in Drama.

In 1983, at the age of 21 she won the Miss Malaysia Beauty Pageant and represented the county in London for the 1983 Miss World. Her exposure at the Miss World leads to several commercial appearances with Jackie Chan. She appeared with Jackie Chan and Chow Yun Fat on the commercial of Charles Jourdan. At the commercial she met her husband Dickson Poon, who managed D&B Group handling the commercials. She then retired while they were married but they divorced after three years.

In 1993, Michelle then returned to acting and went to do Police Story 3 which was sot in part in Malaysia. She also appeared that year in The Heroic Trio and Tai Chi Master. The following year she was seen on Wing Chun.
In 1997, she had her first Hollywood break in the film Tomorrow Never Dies, one of the James Bond films of Pierce Brosnan. She played the role of Wai Lin.

In 2002, she made her first film as a producer in The Touch. Then in 2004 she landed the lead female role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She appeared opposite her old lead partner Chow Yun Fat. The success of Crouching Tiger leads to more Hollywood offers including a role in the two sequels of Matrix. However due to conflict in schedule she could not accept the role. In 2005, she appeared in Memoirs of a Geisha, appearing as Mameha.

In 2001, Michelle was awarded the title Dato for the honor she had given to the country. In 2002, she was awarded the Outstanding Young Persons of the World by the JCI or Junior Chamber International. In 2007, she was awarded Knight of the Legion of Honour of France by President Jacques Chirac.
