Michelle Williams was born in Kalispell, Montana, on September 9, 1980, as the eldest of five children. Her father Larry is a commodities trader, while her mother Carla is a homemaker. Michelle Williams and her family moved to San Diego, California, when she was just nine years old. She showed an interest in acting at an early age, although her father had trained her in the field he was best known for: stock and commodity trading. At the young age of 16 she even won the prestigious Robbins World Cup Trading Championship by converting $10,000 to $100,000.

Michelle Williams’s first movie was in 1994 for Lassie. This was followed by Species in 1995 and A Thousand Acres in 1997 where she costarred with Michelle Pfeiffer and Jessica Lange, and Halloween H20 in 1998. She also had appearances in television shows such as Step By Step, My Son Is Innocent, and Killing Mr. Griffin before she had her first regular role in Dawson’s Creek. It was her role as Jen Lindley in the teenage drama show Dawson’s Creek that drew attention to her as an actress and garnered her the 1998 and 1999 Young Star Award nominations for Best Performance by a Young Actress in a Drama TV Series .

The attention Michelle Williams got from Dawson’s Creek led to several more roles in films, including Dick, Prozac Nation, But I’m a Cheerleader, If These Walls Could Talk 2, The United States of Leland, Me Without You, and The Station Agent. In 2005, Michelle Williams starred in Brokeback Mountain, and won the Critic’s Choice Award for her performance. She had a daughter named Matilda with costar Heath Ledger, whom she met during the filming of the movie. Michelle Williams was also nominated a Screen Actors Guild Award in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture together with the rest of the crew for Brokeback Mountain.

Michelle Williams’s more recent movies include The Hawk is Dying and The Hottest State, both in 2006; I’m Not There, The Tourist, and Synecdoche, New York all in 2007. Her upcoming films in 2008 are Incendiary, Where the Wild Things Are, and Bronte. Although she had a brief relationship with Heath Ledger, they have reportedly called it quits, after three years together.

Michelle Williams has proven to be a favorite of the public, with her talent and fresh beauty. In 1999, she was one of the list in Teen People Magazine’s 21 Hottest Stars Under 21, made it to Entertainment Weekly’s It List in 2000, and one of ElleGirl’s 25 Favorite Hot, Young, Talented New Stars.
