Born Melissa Joan Hart on April 18, 1976 in Long Island, New York, she spent most of her growing up years in Sayville. She has five younger sisters – Alexandra Hart-Gilliams and Trisha, Elizabeth, Emily and Samantha Hart, plus an older sister, Trisha who became a producer. They have one brother, Brian and a half-brother, Mackenzie. In 1996, Elizabeth, Emily, Alexandra and Brian have appeared on Melissa’s own TV series, “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”.

At an early age of four, Melissa Joan Hart started her acting career when she landed the role in a TV commercial for the Splashy bathtub toy. From then on, Melissa appeared in 25 television commercials before reaching the age of five. From the start of her career until today, her mother Paula Hart has been Melissa’s agent. Melissa Joan Hart became the youngest member of the New York Circle Repertory Lab Company and acted in two plays – the 1989 “Beside Herself” and the 1990 “Imagining Brad”.

In 1985, Melissa’s early television work was with a small role in the miniseries “Kane & Abel”. She also starred in the 1986 Emmy Award-winning made-for-TV movie, “Christmas Snow” alongside Katherine Helmond. Melissa Joan Hart auditioned for a role in the 1989 Broadway production, “The Crucible” opposite Martin Sheen, which led her to becoming an understudy to several girls in the play. Although Hart didn’t get the lead role in the play, she landed a Nickelodeon TV show, “Clarissa Explains It All”, which became a major hit for four years. The show led her to four repeated Young Artist Award nominations, which she won three times.

When the Nick series was canceled, Melissa Joan Hart decided to pursue college and attended New York University. However, when she won the lead role for the 1995 made-for-tv movie, “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch” and played on the TV series of the same name, she dropped out of school. Melissa Joan Hart then guest-starred in several TV series and movies before landing a supporting role in the 1998 movie “Can’t Hardly Wait”.

In 2003, the Sabrina the Teenage Witch TV series finished. On July 19 of that same year, Melissa Joan Hart married musician Mark Wilkerson. The preparations of her Italy wedding were documented and produced by Hartbreak Films (Melissa’s own production company) as a TV miniseries called, “Tying the Knot”. Melissa Joan Hart also directed her first movie in the 15-minute action called, “Mute”, which starred her sister Emily. In January 11, 2006, Hart gave birth to a son, Mason Walter Wilkerson.
