Melissa George dropped out of school at the age of 16, and also said goodbye to skating. She ventured into modeling, and won the Western Australias Teenage Model of the Year in 1992. During the time she was modeling, she was discovered by an agent who got her to audition for a role in the Australian soap opera Home and Away in 1993. She got the part of Angel Brooks, and this started to earn her recognition as an actress in Australia as well as in the United Kingdom. Melissa George then left Perth for Sydney after three years on the show to further pursue a career in acting.
Melissa George put up a sleepwear line called An Angel at my Bedside, and also released a fitness video targeted at teens called Mind, Body and Soul. She was very popular for her toned body and gorgeous looks, and was featured in a 1997 issue of Australian Playboy. She had a few appearances in the television series, Roar, in 1997, which she costarred with Heath Ledger. Roar was an Australian-American production, and it was this show that introduced Melissa George to the American audience.
Melissa George moved to Los Angeles to try acting there. Her first movie was in 1998, a small role for Dark City. She then starred in the Limey in 1999, and Sugar and Spice in the same year. Sugar and Spice was Melissa Georges first major role, where she played Cleo, the cheerleader friend of Marley Shelton who has an obsession with Conan OBrien and helps her group of friends conspire to rob a bank. She also starred in Mulholland Drive and Down with Love.
Melissa George also had brief stints for television shows Thieves, Charmed, Alias, and Friends. In 2005, she got her first lead role as Kathy Lutz in the remake of the Amityville Horror. In the same year she also appeared in Derailed, where she costarred with Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen. In 2006 she starred in the movie Turistas, and filmed Music Within, Waz, and 30 Days of Night for the 2007 release.
Melissa George is married to Claudio Dabed, and they live together in Los Angeles with stepdaughter Martina. Her husband is Chilean, and they met in Bali in 1998. Melissa George and actress Rachel Blanchard are also best friends.
