Mayra Veronica was born Mayra Verónica Aruca Rodríguez on the 20th of August 1980 in Havana, Cuba. Though born Cuban, she would later become successful model, a Hollywood star and one of the hottest and sexiest Latina stars.

She was born to Arturo Aruca and Mayra Rodrigues and has a half-sister, seventeen years her senior, named Giselle Guzman. Her father was a musician and a member of the band Los Dada. Her mother brought her the United States when she was four and they stayed in shelters until her father arrived later on. Then they had an apartment in Miami where she would spend the rest of her childhood days.

When Mayra Veronica was young, she had acting, voice and classical dance lessons. She also joined several beauty contests and was a runner up in the Miss Miami and the Miss Hispanic America. After high school, she went to the Florida International University and earned a degree in psychology and a minor in theatre.

After high school, Mayra Veronica went to New York and trained at the prestigious Strassberg Institute where she got to appear in several plays. Mayra also became the spokes model of Univision television network. In Miami, Mayra Veronica hosted, edited, wrote and produced her segment of the Miami Hoy. In the television show she interviewed many celebrities including Donald Trump, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Anthony, Hugh Hefner, Tim Allen, Burt Reynolds and others.

Mayra Veronica then starred in the PBS film Tumble and appeared in several Spanish language commercials including Ford, Coca Cola, Allstate, L’Oreal, Burger King and Colgate. Then she landed the role in Don Francisco Presenta by Univision. This catapulted her to stardom and she became one of the hottest Latina stars.

With the success of her appearances on television and ads, Mayra Veronica then launched a career in music. Soon she was named by FHM magazine as the sexiest woman alive on Latin television. She was also featured in the Extra’s Star Profile in 2006 and was thrice named as one of the 100 Sexiest Women in the World by FHM magazine.

Mayra Veronica has also graced the cover of several magazines such as Maxim, Men’s Edge, Smoke, Open Your Eyes, Urban Male, Smooth, Maxim En Espanol and King.

In 2007, Mayra Veronica lent her voice and body in the video game, Def Jam: Icon. She is now busy with her new album which is set for release in 2008.
