The hot supermodel was born on June 18, 1975 in Rocourt village, a French speaking part of Belgium. Young Marie had shown a keen interest in acting together with her younger sister Celine and other children in her village as they dress up and organize their own small shows in their attic. Marie Gillain attended theater workshop to further enhance her acting skills during her teenage years. She completed her education at Sanint-Louis College in Liege.
When she saw in the newspaper that actors were needed for the film The Lover by renowned director Jean-Jacques Annaud, she immediately set for an audition but unfortunately was not selected in the cast. A year later, the same casting director welcomed her to play for a major role in the movie Mon pere, Ce Hero where she gained her outmost popularity. Since then, Marie Gillain appeared in many movies, TV shows and commercials all over Italy.
After the phenomenal success of her first movie, the sexy movie diva starred in the Belgian film entitled Marie where she won Best actress in Paris Film Festival (1994) and another Best actress during the Giffoni Films Festival for the same movie. Marie Gillain showed her best performance in her third sensational movie L’ Appat directed by Bertrand Tavanier which became one of the top grossing film in France. In the movie, she won another Best Actress Award in 1995 Gramado film Festival and received a nomination for Most Promising Actress during 1996 Cesar Awards in France.
She also played in the movie Les affinities Electives filmed in Tuscany directed by the Taviani brothers and competes at the 49th Cannes Film Festival where she won another Best Actress Award. Her two other films were made by two renowned directors. She starred in a highly budgeted production of 1997 movie Le Bossu, directed by Phillipe de Broca. The movie was released in several countries; all of them did well at the box office. Marie Gillain played the lead role in Le Dernier Harem, directed by Ferzan Ozpetek.
The hot superstar is also interested to act in theater and made her debut in 1995 in the play Le Journal d’Anne Frank. She had done fifty performances in Lyon before moving to Paris where it became a huge success. Marie also took part in L’Orchestre a la Portee des enfants, a series of concerts to help children appreciate the beauty of classical music.
Marie Gillain is one of the beautiful faces for the cosmetic firm Lacome which gives her financial security. On April 12, 2004, she gave birth to daughter June in 2002. She loves all kind of arts; in fact she admires the poet Christian Bobbin, an avid reader of Stephan Zweig and adores the painter Edward Hopper.
