She grew up in Hawaii and graduated from the Mililani High School. After high school, she then moved to Japan and later on to Hong Kong, where she started working as a fashion model. Her family still lives in Hawaii and she visits them whenever she is free from work.
In 1998, enjoying a career in modeling, Maggie Q landed her first acting role in the Chinese television series. Since she does not speak Chinese, most of her first films were dubbed. Later on she took Cantonese and Mandarin Lessons to better portray her roles.
In 2000, Maggie Q played the role of Anna in the movie Gui ming mo, Model from Hell in English. That same year, her break came when she landed a role in the hit television thriller Tejing xinrenlei 2 or Gen Y Cops in Hong Kong release and Metal Mayhem in the US. She played the role of Jane Quigley in this film.
In 2001, Maggie Q was seen in Manhattan Midnight and had a cameo in the film Rush Hour 2. The following year, she appeared in Chek law dak gung or Naked Weapon. In Naked Weapon, she played the role of Charlene Ching, a sexy assassin.
In 2003, she was seen as Miss Clary in the movie Yi wu liang huo or The Troublemakers in the US release. That same year she also co-produced the movie Earthlings. The following year, she was in the Moh waan chue fong or Magic Kitchen in the Hong Kong release. That same year, she played the role of Maggie M. Quigley, the female agent in the movie Around the World in 80 Days.
In 2005, Maggie Q was seen in Taped, Maang lung or Dragon Heat in the US release, Barbara Wood Das Haus der Harmonie. The year after, she appeared in The Counting House and Mission Imposible 3. In 2007 she was in Live Free or Die Hard, Balls of Fury and The List. For 2008, she is set to appear in Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon.
