Lucy Lawless was born Lucille Frances Ryan on the 29th of March 1968 in Mount Albert, New Zealand. She is most famous for her role as Xena on the hit series Xena: The Warrior Princes, for which she played the character from 1995 to 2001.

She is one of the seven children of Julie and Frank Ryan and was raised by both parents in New Zealand. Lucy Lawless studied foreign languages at the Auckland University for about a year but left it for Europe. She went to Europe with her boyfriend Garth Lawless and traveled across Switzerland and Germany before settling to Australia.

When she was 19, Lucy Lawless got pregnant and in 1999, she married Garth Lawless in Australia. When the couple returned to New Zealand, they had their first daughter, Daisy. In 1995, Lucy divorced Garth Lawless and then married Robert Tapert, the producer of Xena, in 1998. She and Robert have two sons, Julius Robert Bay Tapert and Judah Miro Tapert. The two boys were born in New Zealand.

In 1990, Lucy Lawless was seen as a guest star in the New Zealand television series Shark in the Park. Then in 1994, she was seen on Hercules and the Amazing Woman, where she played the Amazon, Lysa. Then in 1995, she was given the role of Xena in the episode The Warrior Princess. Vanessa Angel was suppose to play the part but became ill and was not able to travel for New Zealand. She reprised the role twice more in the first season of Hercules.

In the series Xena: Warrior Princess, her character had a change of heart and decided to do good instead of bad, as in the Hercules episodes. Xena: Warrior Princes aired September 1995, during which time she reprised her role again in Hercules.

In the second season of Xena, the series became a hit and this catapulted her to stardom. Lucy Lawless became a star in Hollywood televisions and was even portrayed in the hit comedy animation, The Simpsons. In 1998, she was asked to host the hit comedy show Saturday Night Live.

In 1997, Lucy Lawless was one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in the World. Since then she was seen in several hot shows including The X-Files, Two and a Half Men, Battlestar Galactica and others. She was also in the movies Spider Man, Boogeyman and Eurotrip.
