Her parents are both actors and were members of The Madhouse Company of London. When she was young, though she was exposed to acting, Liza Weil wanted to be an archeologist. In 1984, her family settled down in Pennsylvania. In high school she was more interested into acting than in her grades that she had to take summer school to graduate from high school. Eventually, she graduated from the North Penn High School in 1995. After high school she frequently traveled to New York to audition for roles. She then eventually landed parts on off-Broadway plays. She graduated from the Columbia University despite her busy acting career.
Aside from performing at off-Broadway plays, Liza Weil also acted in the Los Angeles theatrical community and at the theater in Philadelphia. In 2004, she was seen opposite her father in the play, Proof, held at the Montgomery Theater in Pennsylvania. For her first television part, she was seen opposite her mother in the Yellow Fever episode of The Adventures of Pete & Pete. In the episode, Liza Weil played the role of a school bully while her mother played the role of the school teacher. She was also seen opposite her sister in the Gilmore Girls episode Those Are Strings, Pinocchio. In the episode, her sister Samantha played the role of a student making a video yearbook.
Liza Weils first major role was in the movie Stir of Echoes, for which she was seen opposite Kevin Bacon. Prior to that, she was in several independent films including Whatever in 1998 and A Cure for Serpents in 1996. She was also seen in several independent films such as Motel Jerusalem, Lullaby and Scar.
In 2007, Liza Weil was seen in Neal Cassady and Order Up and as for 2008, she is set to appear in Mars, Little Fish, Strange Pond and The Missing Person.
