Lexa Doig was born Alexandra L. Doig on the 8th of June 1973 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her mother Gloria was a Filipina and her father David was Irish/Scottish. She grew up in Toronto where her family used to take her on local theater shows. When she was nine years old, after watching the stage production of Porgy and Bess, she was so inspired that she then decided to become an actress.

She is most famous for her role in Andromeda and Stargate SG-1. At the age of 16 she entered a modeling course and was then spotted by a modeling agent. Soon, Lexa Doig started appearing in commercials and begun to do modeling works. During her last year in high school she decided to drop out to pursue acting.

As Lexa Doig went on several auditions for television and movie roles, she appeared onstage in the play Romeo and Juliet and in the production of Arsenic and Old Lace. She also had a small part in Earth: Final Conflict before having landing a major role in Tek War, where she was seen opposite actor William Shatner. In Tek War, she played the character of Cowgirl, a computer specialist in pursuit of information on the web.

Lexa Doig then landed another significant rolein 1998 in the series CI5: The New Professionals although the series did not last longer than several seasons. Hollywood then sees her as one of the stars suited for sci-fi roles. In 2000 she was again cast in another Gene Roddenberry show, Andromeda. In Andromeda, she played the role of an artificial intelligence where she appears as a hologram or an android named Rommie.

The following year, Lexa Doig landed the female lead part in the horror movie Jason X. At the same time, she was seen in Stargate SG-1’s ninth and tenth seasons. She played the character of Carolyn Lam in Stargate. She was by this time one of Hollywood’s sci-fi stars. Aside from Stargate and Andromeda, she was seen in the series The 4400, playing the role of Wendy Paulson, the college professor.

Lexa Doig is married to actor Michel Shanks, who used to guest star in Andromeda. They were married in 2003 and have two children, Mia Tabitha and Samuel David.
