Larisa Oleynik was born Larisa Romanovna Oleynik on the 7th of June 1981 in Santa Clara County, California. Her father was Russian and she was brought up in the Orthodox religion. Her star rose in the middle of the 90s, when she appeared in the children’s series, The Secret World of Alex Mack. During her teenage years, she was one of Hollywood’s favorite teen stars. She was also famous for her appearance in the 10 Things I Hate About You.

Larisa Oleynik grew up in San Francisco and was first seen in the local production of Les Miserables, when she was just eight years old. After the musical, she decided to train for acting and get an agent. She went to Pinewood School and then afterwards to Sarah Lawrence College, where she graduated in 2004.

In 1993, Larisa Oleynik appeared in the hit television series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and in the movie made for TV, River of Rage: The Taking of Maggie Keene. These appearances lead to her landing the lead part in the Nickelodeon series The Secret World of Alex Mack. In this series, she played the role of a teenager with telekinetic power. She played the role of Alex Mack from 1994 to 1998 and she was a Hollywood star for teenagers.

In 1995, while still with Alex Mack, she landed one of the lead parts in the film The Baby Sitter Club. In this film, she was seen opposite Schuyler Fisk and Rachel Leigh Cook. That same year, Larisa Oleynik was also in the series Boy Meets World and was one of the columnists of the teen magazine Tiger Beat.

At the same time, Larisa Oleynik was very active with civic works in Nickelodeon’s Big Help, Hands Across Communication, Starlight Foundation and Surfrider Foundation.

After The Secret World of Alex Mack, Larisa landed a role in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. In this teen movie, she appeared opposite Andrew Keegan, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. The movie grossed more than $38 million when it was released in April 1999.

In 2001, Larisa Oleynik was in An American Rhapsody and Bringing Rain. In 2007, she appeared in the movie, Together Again for the First Time. For 2008, she is set to appear in Broken Windows, playing the role of Sara.
