Kelly Hu Biography
In 1985, to gain popularity, Kelly Hu joined and won the 1985 Miss Hawaii Teen USA. Thus she competed in the prestigious pageant Miss Teen USA and won the title. Her mother thought that America was not ready to have an Asian Miss Teen USA and told her not to be disappointed if she does not win. Kelly Hu was the first Asian American Miss Teen USA.
Eventually following her cousins footsteps she worked as a model in Japan and later in Italy. Then she moved to Los Angeles in 1987 to try her hands in acting. She was first seen in the hit sitcom Growing Pains, appearing with Kirk Cameron. Then she was next seen in several television series including the hit series 21 Jupmstreet, which starred Johnny Depp. She was also seen in other series such as Night Court, Melrose Place and Tour of Duty.
She was also seen in the film Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, her first film role. In 1993, Kelly Hu returned to beauty pageant and won the Miss Hawaii USA. She then became one of the finalists in the Miss USA 1993. In 1995, she landed a role in the film, No Way Back. Soon she landed a role in the series Sunset Beach, playing the role of Dr. Rae Chang. Then from 1997 to 1998, she played the role of Michelle Chan in the series Nash Bridges.
The following year, until 2000, she was seen in Martial Law, playing the role of Pei Pei Grace Chen. In 2002 she appeared in the movie The Scorpion King. The following year, she was seen in the movies X2 and Cradle 2 the Grave. In 2007 she became one of the regular casts of the series In Case of Emergency.
