At age 6, Keira Knightley hired herself an agent and got her first role from her parents friend. She also performed in numerous local productions including After Juliet and United States. In 1994, she received a role in the movie, A Village Affair and played in Innocent Lies the following year. Keira Knightleys big break was when she landed the role of Queen Amidalas best friend and trusted handmaiden in the 1999 Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace. From then on, Keira received numerous film offers.
Keira Knightley played a role in the English film, Bend it Like Beckham, which grossed over $18 million in UK and more than $30 million in the United States. This film led her to become a cast in the high-profile action film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, co-starring Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. With positive reviews and high grosses, Knightley instantly became the next hottest actress in Hollywood.
In 2003, Keira Knightley played in a British romantic comedy, Love Actually and the 2004 King Arthur, both of which receiving negative feedbacks. In 2005, she released three films, including The Jacket and Domino, which still received disappointing scores. Fortunately, her role as Elizabeth Bennet in the movie Pride and Prejudice received great reviews and earned her both a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination.
In 2006, the release of the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest was the biggest hit Keira Knightley had on record. After the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, she completed several films, including Silk, Atonement and The Edge of Love. She is scheduled to release a few films for 2008, but Knightley says she may have to take a quick vacation after spending plenty of time working.
Keira Knightley is presently living in London. She is dating her Pride and Prejudice costar, Rupert Friend. Keira Knightley once stated that she prefers to date British men over men with other nationalities because she feels British men are less concerned about their physical appearances. Keira remains a supporter of the West Ham United FC, having been a fan since she was a child with her favorite footballer Patrick Vieira.
