Julianna Margulies attended the Green Meadow Waldorf School and then went to the Sarah Lawrence College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. At Sarah Lawrence College, Julianna participated in many campus plays. After college, she then trained for acting at New Yorks Acting Studio.
Juliannas first professional appearance in film was in the movie, Out of Justice. She played the role of a prostitute opposite actor Steven Seagal. Then in 1994, Julianna Margulies landed a role in the pilot episode of the medical drama series, ER. She played the role of Carol Hathaway and was suppose to die at the end of the first episode. However, the plot was changed and she stayed with the show for six years. In playing the role of Carol Hathaway, she was nominated six times for best actress, one for each year, by the Emmy Awards. She won the Emmy Awards for Best Actress in the first year of the series.
After six years, Julianna Margulies wanted to do other roles and turned down the $27 million offered to her by the producers to stay in the series. After leaving ER she went to appear on stage. She appeared in Intrigue With Faye by MMC Theater. She was also seen in Ten Unknowns by Jon Robin Baitz and The Vagina Monologues at the Lincoln Center.
She returned to television in the miniseries The Mist of Avalon, as guest star in Scrubs, in another miniseries, The Grid and The Lost Room. Julianna Margulies was also in 2006 season six of The Sopranos.
Other movies to her credits include, Ghost Ship, Evelyn, Snakes on a Plane, Beautiful Ohio, Slingshot, Jenifer, Love Gets You Twisted, Man from Elysian Fields, The Big Daddy, Dinosaur, Whats Cooking, The Newton Boys, A Price Above Rubies, Paradise Road, and Traveler.
For 2008, Julianna is set to appear in another television series, Canterburys Law. She is set to play the lead role, Elizabeth Canterbury.
