Julia Sawalha Biography
Julia Sawalha was born on September 9, 1968 in London, England. She is the daughter of an English woman and a Jordanian actor named Nadim Sawalha. Her formal education came from the Italia Conti Academy. She and her two other sisters were raised in London. Her desire for acting started at a very young age. She made her debut on TV when she starred in Press Gang, a long running hot TV serial about a group of teenagers who are involved in a youth-oriented newspaper. Here, Julia played Lynda Day. On the other hand, she made her feature film debut in 1990 when she starred on the film Buddys Song as Kelly.
Bob Spiers, the producer of Press Gang, later directed Julia Sawalha to Absolutely Fabulous. Since its premier in 1992, the sitcom has been highly popular in Great Britain. It earned 6 wins and 14 nominations. Her role here brought her more offers and she did more miniseries during those times including the acclaimed adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in 1995 where she played the sexy Lydia Bennet.
Julia Sawalhas big break on films took place in 1995 when she starred in Kenneth Branaghs comedy In the Bleak Midwinter. Here, she played actress Ophelia who works with a group of actors who are trying to put a production of Shakespeares Hamlet. Since then, she became a hot commodity on both TV and films.
In the past, Julia Sawalha has been romantically linked to her Press Gang co-star Dexter Fletcher. Later, she went out with comedian Richard Herring. She was also seen dating Patrick Marber before she has been intimate with actor Keith Allen, the father of Lily Allen. There have been rumors in 2004 that she married her Jonathan Creek co-star Alan Davies but they denied the allegations. In spite of these past relationships, she has never married anyone.
At present, Julia Sawalha lives in Somerset where she takes care of her own vegetables. During her spare time, she takes Yoga lessons. She also attends Open University for an English Degree.
