Josie Maran was born Johanna Selhorst Maran on the 8th of May 1976 from Menlo, California. She was raised in California and attended an all-girl’s school, the Catilleje School in Palo Alto. At the age of 12, she was spotted by an agent and from then on she became a professional mode. Since she was only 5’7” her works as a model were mostly on advertising or on image modeling.

When she was 17 she worked under the Elite modeling agency Los Angeles and in 1998, she had her first cover at the Glamour magazine. That same year, she became the model of Guess for their ad campaign for the year’s summer and fall collection. The following year, she moved to New York to join Elite New York.
In 1999, she signed a multi year contract with Maybelline to be their campaign model. The following year, she was featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. From then on till the next two year she was a regular in the magazine’s annual swimsuit edition. Aside from the many commercials, totaling over twenty five, she was also seen in the music video by the Backstreet Boys, the famous boy band. In the music video, she was bitten by Dracula, played by one of the band members, Howie.

Aside from modeling, Josie Maran is interested in the arts. She has enrolled herself in an acting class since she wanted to improve her acting skills. She also attends music and dance classes and wanted to try her hands on everything. In fact she played casually in the band Darling, with Nicole Richie and in the band Hollywood 2000, where she played the violin and sang.

In 2000, Josie was seen in the independent movie, The Mallory Effect, for which she played the lead role of Mallory. Then in 2002, she was seen in Swatters, playing the character of Susan. In 2004, she was seen in the movie, Little Black Book, in which she played the role of a French mode. That same year, she was also seen in the films Van Helsing and The Aviator. In Van Helsing, she played opposite Hugh Jackman and was one of the brides of Dracula.

In 2005, Josie Maran was seen in the film The Confession and the following year, in the movie, The Gravedancers. Josie has also lent her voice in the video game Need for Speed: Most Wanted. In 2007, Josie Maran launched her cosmetic line, Josie Maran.
