Jill’s father, John, was a salesman and because of his job, Jill experienced moving a lot while she was growing up. Then in 1982, her mother left her husband and family and she and her siblings, her twin Jacqueline and younger brother John, Jr., were raised by their grandmother in Kitchener, Ontario. She then graduated from Kitchener’s Grand River Collegiate Institute.
In 1988, Jill Hennessy with her sister, appeared as call girls in the movie Dead Ringers. In 1990, she was seen in Broadway, in the musical production of Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story. Then in 1993, she landed the role of Claire Kincaid in the hit series Law & Order. She was seen in Law & Order as Claire from 1993 to 1996. She also landed the lead role of Jordan Cavanaugh on the series Crossing Jordan. Then in 1999, she was seen Chutney Popcorn, playing the role of Lisa.
In 2000, Jill Hennessy produced, wrote and co-directed the film The Acting Class. The independent film was based on the true events of a dysfunctional acting class. The movie starred her sister Jacqueline and included several cameo appearances from her co-stars in Law & Order. In 2000, she was also seen in Row Your Boat, Nuremberg and in Autumn in New York.
Then in 2001, she landed one of the lead roles in the movie made for television Jackie, Ethel, Joan: The Women of Camelot, playing the character of Jackie Kennedy. She was also seen in the movie Exit Wounds that year.
In 2002 Jill was seen in Pipe Dream and Love in the Time of Money, then in 2003, she was seen in the movie Abby Singer. In 2005, she was seen in Dead Broke and in the series Las Vegas where she reprised her role as Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh. In 2007, she was seen opposite Tim Allen in the movie Wild Hogs and in the movie Orange.
Jill Hennessy is also busy with her music career. She is set to release an album although there is nothing definite yet about its contents and release date.
Jill Hennessy is married to bartender Paolo Mastropietro with whom she has a son named Marco. They are expecting a second child due the end of 2007 or early 2008.
