Jewel Staite’s mother was then involved in an advertising industry and she took advantage of her connections in order to get a modeling gig for her daughter. Luckily, she was able to get her some bookings for photo shooting and promotional items endorsement.
In 1986, Jewel Staite’s family moved to Vancouver where she was spotted by a Sears representative who approached and asked her to appear in the department store’s video. This simple modeling job has served as a key to larger projects. Eventually, she landed roles in films and TV series.
Jewel Staite’s first acting role was in a student short film entitled, Meeting Dad. This film was intended for Vancouver Film School. Then she started to appear on various films that led to a bigger role in the serial Flash Forward. Her role in this serial earned her a Gemini Award in 1996 and several nominations with other award giving bodies.
Although Jewel Staite was featured in different series, she is best remembered as the sexy Kaylee of Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity. In spite of her success as an actress, she still strongly expresses her desire to work with Meryl Streep and the hot and appealing Johnny Depp.
Aside from acting, Jewel Staite is also hot for charitable events. While she is not a professional singer, she has sung for numerous charitable events that benefit impaired children. She has also served as a spokesperson for the Children with AIDS Project of America (CWA). The death of her uncle from AIDS compelled her to work for such organizations.
Jewel Staite loves to write and travel. In her spare time, she also practices her non-pro but sexy voice with Jazz and Swing music. She married Matt Anderson in 2003 and lived a few blocks away from her parents in Vancouver, BC. This made her maintain a close relationship with her parents and common friends although she now has her own family.
