Jennifer Beals was born on the 19th of December 1963, in Chicago, Illinois to an African-American father and Irish mother. She was educated at Francis W. Parker School in Chicago, a school that emphasizes community and citizenship.
When Jennifer Beals was already a teenager, she first pursued modeling before landing roles on films and TV shows. When she was 17 years old, she impressed the producers of My Bodyguard and that has been her debut on the wide screen. However, it is Flash Dance that served as her breakthrough performance. Her character Alen Owens in the film has set a trend in the clothing style during the 80s and she has rose to fame instantly.
When it was reported that she was not the one who did most of the dance scenes in Flash Dance, numerous fans and followers were turned off. Therefore, her fan base has decreased a lot.
In 1986, Jennifer Beals married independent filmmaker, Alexandre Rockwell. After being married, she appeared in several of his films which include In the Soup (1992) and Four Rooms (1995). She also starred in the 1995 film Devil in a Blue Dress.
In 1996, she divorced her husband after spending almost 10 years of being together. In 1998, she won the Golden Satellite Award for her portrayal in the miniseries The Twilight of the Golds. Since then, her success continued and her popularity increased more and more.
