Janine Turner was born form a real estate agent mother, Janice and a West Point graduate and 30-year Braniff pilot, Turner M. Gauntt. She, along with her sibling, Tim, was raised in Euless, Texas.
When she was 15, Janine left her hometown to pursue a career in modeling under the famous Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. In 1980, when she was 18, she landed her first acting role in the hit soap Dallas, for which she appeared as a guest star. She appeared on three episodes of Dallas, the End of the Road: Part 1 episode, in 1981, The Venezuelan Connection episode in 1980 and the No More Mr. Nice Guy: Part 2 episode in 1980 and also in 1981, she was in Mr. Merlin and Behind the Screen.
The following year, Janine Turner was seen in Young Doctors in Love, for which she only played a cameo, and in the hit comedy The Love Boat. In 1983, she was seen in several shows including, General Hospital, Happy Days and Boone.
In 1984, Janine was seen on The Master, Santa Barbara and Mickey Spillanes Mike Hammer. The following year, she was seen in two hit shows, The A Team and Knight Rider. In 1986, she was in Another World, Tai-Pan and Knights of the City. Then from 1988 to the early 90s she was seen in several hit shows and movies including, Steel Magnolias, Monkey Shrines, Quantum Leap and The Ambulance.
In 1990, Janine Turner landed one of the lead roles in Northern Exposure, as Maggie OConnell. She was seen in all the 62 episodes of Northern Exposure, from the year 1990 to 1995.
Then Janine Turner was seen in the blockbuster movie starring Sylvester Stallone, Cliffhanger. This was followed by several appearances, including The Curse of Inferno, Leave it to Beaver, Circle of Deciet, A Secret Affair, Trip in a Summer Dress and Miracle Dogs Too.
From 2000 to 2002, she was also in Strong Medicine, as Dr. Dana Stowe. Janine Turner was also seen in David Bowies video of his song Ricochet.
Then in 2004, she made the film Trip in a Summer Dress, where as a director and writer. Then in 2006, she was seen on the movie, The Night of the White Pants.
