Jami Gertz went to New York University where she studied drama but she was discovered on the Norman Lear national talent search. Thus, in 1981, she had her film debut in Endless Love, directed by Franco Zeffirelli. For her first appearance on screen she was seen opposite the then unknown Tom Cruise.
The following year, 1982, Jami Gertz guest starred in the television series Square Pegs. In this series about high school kids, she was seen opposite the series star Sarah Jessica Parker. At the same time, she was also seen in the hit comedy series, The Facts of Life.
Then in 1987, Jami Gertz landed her most recognizable character in the hit movie The Lost Boys. In this film, she played the character of a Star, the shy vampire girl. She played opposite teen stars, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. That same year, she landed a role in the teen cult classic film Less Than Zero. In Less Than Zero, she played the character of a girl caught in between the characters played by Robert Downey, Jr. and Andrew McCarthy.
Following the success of Less than Zero, Jami Gertz was next seen in the film Listen to Me, where she starred opposite Kirk Cameron. In 1984, she was seen in the hit teen flick Sixteen Candles.
After playing several teen roles, the 90s saw her doing mainstream drama and comedies, and onstage in off Broadway show. Jami Gertz appeared in Sibling Rivalry, opposite Kirstie Alley in1990. Then she teamed up with Dylan McDermott in Jersey Girl in1992. She was the female lead in the hit movie Twister, opposite Bill Paxton in 1996.
In television, she was seen as Gilda Radner in Its Always Something: The Gild Radner Story and as Judy Miller in the hit sitcom Still Standing. In 1994, she appeared in the long running series Seinfeld, playing the character of Jerrys girlfriend and the phone sex partner of Kramer. In 1997, she had a recurring role in the hit series ER, as Dr. Nina Pomerantz. From 2002 to 2006, she was in the hit sitcom Still Standing, playing the role of Judy Miller.
Jami Gertz with husband Anthony Ressler lives in Los Angeles with their three sons.
