Jaclyns first role, aside from the Charlies Angels series, was in the movie made for television Escape from Bogen County in 1977. This was followed by the role in The Users by Joyce Haber. In The Ushers, she appeared alongside John Forsythe and Tony Curtis.
Then in 1980, she appeared in the suspense thriller film Nightkill. It was her first appearance in the movies and she played opposite Robert Mitchum. However, though the film was set to be released in the big screen, it was eventually released in television. Despite her disappointment for the release, the critics loved her performance.
After Nightkill, Jaclyn Smith landed the lead role for the movie made for television, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. For her performance as Jacqueline Kennedy she was nominated as Best Actress in the Golden Globe Awards. In 1983, she appeared in Rage of Angels, based on the novel by Sidney Sheldon. The show was a big success in the US and internationally that fans of Jaclyn Smith wrote to Sydney Sheldon begging to re-write the story and make Jaclyns son in the show/novel to die in the end.
In 1988, Jacklyn Smith was seen in another Sidney Sheldon miniseries the Windmills of the Gods. She appeared opposite Robert Wagner. It top the Nielsen charts when it was aired on television.
What followed after was what sealed her reign as Queen of TV/Miniseries. Jaclyn Smith was offered to star in the adaptation of Robert Ludlums novel The Bourne Identity. She was offered to star opposite Richard Chamberlain, the King of TV/Miniseries. When she was first offered the role she did not accept it since she just finished Windmills of the Gods. Finally, when the producers came to offer her the role for the second time, she accepted. The Bourne Identity was one of televisions most popular release in America and all over the world.
In 1989, Jaclyn Smith appeared in another movie made for television, Settle the Score. Her role was challenging since the show touched issues of rape, incest, dirty secrets in the family and even killing. Again the show reached the top of the Nielsens chart and the critics again loved her performance. Other hits followed and in 2003 she reprised her role for a cameo in the movie Charlies Angels: Full Throttle.
At present, Jaclyn Smith is busy with her Kmart line of clothing. Her line, like her television appearances, is a huge success that she now expanded to accessories.
