Heike Makatsh had her career break in 1993, when she was offered the hosting stint by VIVA, the music channel. She hosted several shows including Heikes Hausbesuche and Interaktiv for the next two years. Then in 1995 she hosted the show Bravo TV, the German music chart show aired at RTL II. She hosted the famous show until the summer of 1996, during which time her popularity grew further.
That same year, in 1996, Heike Makatsh had her film debut in Männerpension, or Jailbirds in English release, by Betley Buck. For her performance in this film, she was awarded the Most Talented Young Actor from the Bayerischer Filmpreis or the Bavarian Film Award. The success of her movie led to several roles in both the English and German productions.
In 1997, Heike Makatsch finally had her own late night weekly show, the Heike Makatsch Show. However, after only 8 episodes, her show was cancelled since it did not pick up in the ratings.
In 2006, she was seen in the movie made for television Margarete Steiff, for which she played the lead role as Margarete Steiff. For her great performance, she was nominated in the Emmy Awards.
