Gina Lollobrigida was born Luigina Lollobrigida on the 4th of July 1927 in Subiaco, Italy. Her father was a local furniture maker in Italy. She grew up in the mountainous village with her three sisters. As a teenager, she modeled and won several beauty contests. This led to her appearances in several Italian films. In 1942 she won the 3rd place in the Miss Italy beauty pageant. In 1949 she married Mirko Skofic, a Slovenian physician. She would have a son with him, named Mirko Skofic, Jr. She would later divorce Mirko In 1977.

Her Italian films got the attention of Hollywood producers. In 1953, she debuted in Hollywood in the film Beat the Devil. The film made her famous and by 1955 she starred in the film The World’s Most Beautiful Woman. She also got the same nickname in Hollywood. The following year she was seen in the film Trapeze where she appeared opposite actor Burt Lancaster. That same year, she was seen in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

In 1959, she appeared opposite Frank Sinatra in the film Never So Few. It was during the filming of the movie when she was rumored to have had an affair with the famous blue eyed singer. Then in 1961 she starred in the film Come September. This was her most famous movie. She starred opposite star Rock Hudson. For her portrayal, she earned a World Film Favorite from the Golden Globe Awards.
In 1965, she was seen in the film Strange Bedfellows, again opposite Rock Hudson. Then the following year she was seen alongside British actor Alec Guinnes in the film Hotel Paradiso. Then in 1968, Gina Lollobrigida she appeared opposite Shelley Winters, Telly Savalas and Phil Silvers in the movie Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell. For her performance she would again be nominated in the Golden Globe Award.

By the 70s, Gina Lollobrigida focused her attention on photo journalism. She photographed many celebrities such as Salvador Dali, the German national team and other Hollywood celebrities. In 1973 she published her work, entitled Italia Mia.

In 1984, Gina Lollobrigida returned to television in the soap opera Falcon Crest. By the 90s she was seen some films. Then in 1999 she ran in Italy’s parliament. Gina Lollobrigida's hobbies include painting and sculpting. She also keeps herself busy as a corporate executive of cosmetic and fashion companies.

Then in 2006, Gina Lollobrigida surprised everybody when she announced her engagement with Javier Rigau y Rafols. She was 79 at that time and the Spaniard businessman was only 45. The odd couple met a party in Monte Carlo. Due to media pressure, their engagement was called of December the same year.
