Being raised in California, she went to the famous Beverly Hills High School and attended it the same time with celebrity Lenny Lravitz. Then she went to the same school where actors Mario Cantone and Dennis Leary went, the Emerson College.
Gina Gershon went out with several famous men including actor Owen Wilson, actor John Cusack, Sean McPherson, the hotel owner and Jay Penske, the millionaire businessman. In 2004, she was the #51 in the ranking of Hot 100 Women by Maxim.
Gina Gershon played several gay roles and is now considered as gay icon. Some of her most memorable gay role includes the role of a butch lesbian in the film Bound. Another gay role which earned her praises from the critics is in the film Showgirls.

Gina Gershon also lent her voice in several animation series including Spider Man: The New Animated Series in 2006 as Shikata, The Batman in 2005 as Catwoman, Tripping the Rift in 2004 as Six. In 1988, she appeared on stage in the Broadway production of Cabaret, for which she played the role of Sally Bowles.
