Elsa Pataky underwent training with Ángel Gutiérrez and Paco Pino in Madrid. She was also a member of the theatre company, Teatro Cámara de Ángel Guitiérrez, still based in Madrid.
Upon the success of Al Salir de Clase, Elsa Pataky became one of Spain’s hottest actresses was given her first film, El Arte de Morir, which became a sensational hit in Spain. After El Arte de Morir, she moved on to work in all genres: comedy, drama, action, and horror. Some of her films were co-produced by UK and France which led her to studying English and French. Today, Elsa Pataky fluently speaks four languages, Spanish, French, English and Romanian.
As one of the most exciting young actresses to conquer the international entertainment, Elsa Pataky has already appeared in over 10 Spanish films and most recently widened her reach over to the French market with her co-starring role in the box office hit, Iznogoud. Elsa as well made her Hollywood debut in a supporting role in the New Line Cinema film Snakes On a Plane, starring Samuel L. Jackson and directed by David Ellis. She is currently receiving critical praise for her performance in the Spanish film, Ninette, which was done by Oscar winner José Luis Garci.
During an interview about the movie Snakes On a Plane, Elsa Pataky recalls, ‘I don't think Sam (Samuel L. Jackson) liked the snakes very much. I think I was the only one who did. I love them! There was a room on the set that housed the snakes—we worked with at least 400 of them for the movie—and you could go and visit them whenever you wanted. So when I was waiting around the set, I’d hang out with the snake handlers.’
Elsa Pataky likes to go rollerblading, snowboarding, and riding horses during her free time.. She also enjoys reading and watching movies. Her mother is of Romanian descent.
Elsa Pataky is currently dating actor Adrien Brody.
