With the stunning looks and sexy figure, Diane Kruger then ventured into acting. She auditioned for a part in Luc Bessons The Fifth Element in 1997 but failed to be in the movie because her French was not good enough. At the age of 25, she married French actor Guillaume Canet, who is known for his role in The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Greatly encouraged by her husband to pursue acting, Diane Kruger landed her first role in a TV movie entitled The Piano Player in 2002 which is also known as The Target, co-starring Christopher Lambert and Dennis Hopper. Not long after, she appeared in French productions, such as Mon idole, a minor role in "Ni pour, ni contre (bien au contraire) a.k.a. Not for or Against, and Michel Vaillant.
Diane Krugers first foray into Hollywood was in the movie Wicker Park, opposite Josh Hartnett. While filming Wicker Park, she then sent a video tape of herself to Warner Bros. in order to audition for the role of Helen in Wolfgang Petersens Troy. She was then invited to do a screen test and eventually got the part. The production company however remarked that she was too thin for the role and suggested that she must gain at least seven kilos before filming. Diane Kruger then started eating lots of food which paid off well in the end.
The success of Troy led to bigger and better film offers, and she was considered Hollywoods Next Best Thing. Diane Kruger then starred opposite Nicolas Cage in National Treasure, and is now off to star alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar in the horror flick Addicted, scheduled to be released in 2008.
