Debra Messings parents encouraged her to become an actress. She completed her course in liberal arts at Brandeis University before deciding to act as a career. During her third year in college, she pursued theater education at the British European Studio Group in London. Graduating summa cum laude from Brandies in 1990, Debra Messing received her bachelors degree in theater arts and gained admission to the elite Graduate Acting Program. This admission was an honor, since the program only accepts 15 students each year. She pursued a three-year masters degree in fine arts at the New York University.
Debra Messing was praised for her role in the 1993 pre-Broadway production of Angels in America: Perestroika. Between 1994 and 1995, Debra Messing guest starred in several episodes of the TV series, NYPD Blue. It was only in 1995 that she received a big break playing a small role in her debut film, A Walk in the Clouds alongside Keanu Reeves. Back on TV, Fox network gave Debra Messing a sitcom, Ned and Stacey, which lasted from 1995 to 1997.
In 1998, Debra Messing received the pilot script for the TV show, Will & Grace. Although she wanted to take time off during these times, she auditioned for the role of Grace Adler due to curiosity. Her popularity in TV led to other movie including Woody Allens 1998 film, Hollywood Ending, 2002 Mothman Prophecies, and 2004 Along Came Polly. It was on 2005 that Debra Messing received her first leading role in The Wedding Date.
Debra Messing met her husband actor and screenwriter, Daniel Zelman during their first day at New York University. The couple then married on September 2000 and gave birth to a son, Roman Walker Zelman, on April 7, 2004. Debra Messing and her family is currently living in New York City.
