Cynthia Watros became well known in television for her role in the soap opera Guiding Light where she played the role of Annie Dutton from 1994 to 1998. In the said soap opera, her character was that of a brave and caring heroine. However, because of her characters rivalry with Reva Shayne, which was played by Kim Zimmer, Cynthia Watros gained notice as she transformed into a scheming villainess. Her outstanding performance in the soap led her to winning a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1998.
After Guiding Light, Cynthia Watros took on roles in primetime television, starting as Erin Fitzpatrick on Titus from 2000 to 2002. When the said show was canceled, she moved on to a new role as Kellie Newmark on the Drew Carey Show, wherein she replaced actress Christa Miller. She stayed on the show for two years, and during her stay, Drew Carey sent her flowers every week. In 2005, she starred in the hit series Lost, where she became the psychologist Libby, who came from the group of survivors of the plane crash in which the plot of the series began. At the end of shows season, her character was killed by Michael Dawson, which was played by Harol Perrineau.
While a teenager, Cynthia Watros suffered a serious disease called Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The said illness required her to undergo several years of splenectomy and chemotherapy, which resulted to a temporary loss of hair and weight gain of over 100 pounds.
Cynthia Watros was once friends with Guiding Light co-star Kim Zimmer. However, on-screen rivalry caused a rift on their friendship, resulting to a gap as well as a physical altercation between them, which was even caught on video.
She is now married to Curtis Gilliland and is a mother of two daughters, Emma Rose Marie and Sadie Anna Marie, born on July 14, 2001.
