Courtney Thorne-Smith is an American actress born on November 8, 1967 in San Francisco, California. She grew up in one of the suburbs south of the city, Menlo Park. Her mother was a therapist while her father was a computer market researcher, and they divorced when she was 7 years old. Courtney Thorne-Smith was already fond of acting while growing up, as she participated in school productions in Menlo-Atherton High School and at Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, California, where she graduated in 1985.

The following year, in 1986, Courtney Thorne-Smith ventured into the world of entertainment in the drama film, Lucas, co-starring Winona Ryder, Charlie Sheena and Corey Haim. She as well took part in several movies including Summer School in 1987, Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise also in 1987 and Side Out in 1990. Courtney Thorne-Smith will be a well-known face in Hollywood because of her roles on television. She became one of the regular faces on television through Fast Times and Growing Pains, as well as TV movies including The Thanksgiving Promise and Infidelity. She then joined the cast of the sitcom Day by Day and worked with Linda Kelsey, Douglas Sheehan and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Afterwards she appeared on six episodes of the popular TV series LA Law as Kimberly Dugan.

In 1992, Courtney Thorne-Smith became known to the audiences as Alison Parker on the adult primetime drama series Melrose Place, which ran until 1997. After Melrose Place, she moved on to portray the recurring role of Georgia Thomas, wife of Ally’s first love Billy on Ally McBeal from 1997 to 2000.

Courtney Thorne-Smith as well became the spokesperson for Almay cosmetics, and endorsed the company’s make-up line ‘Skin Stays Clean’. Because of pressures regarding her being too thin, she left Ally McBeal and focused on spending time with her then husband Andrew Conrad.

After divorcing Conrad in 2001, Courtney Thorne-Smith went back to television and starred on the sitcom According to Jim playing the role of Cheryl. She as well is an author and has written a book entitled Outside In, which was released on September 13, 2007.

Courtney Thorne-Smith married her present husband Roger Fishman on January 1, 2007.
