Steve Tisch gave Constance Marie a role in on CBS's Dirty Dancing in 1988 where she played the character Penny. Several years later, this Hollywood comer starred in the critically acclaimed movie My Family (1995) together with Toni Sanchez. However, perhaps Constance's well praised role was when she played Selena's mother, played by Jennifer Lopez, in the blockbuster film Selena in 1997. This young actress had to endure hours of tedious makeup to make her look fit to be the mother of Selena.
Constance Marie's performance in Selena blazed Marie's path to success in Hollywood's tinsel town. She was the driving force behind ABC's hit series Spin City where she worked with Michael J. Fox. She also starred as Gabriella Diaz on Union Square in the NBC's Must-See-TV. When Union Square was over, Miss Marie did not have a problem landing another TV series role in CBS's series Early Edition in 1996 where she played as Detective Toni Brigatti, the love interest of the lead role played by Kyle Chandler.
Constance Marie's other credited TV-series includes The Underworld with Kevin Pollack and the ABC's Missing Persons. She also graced the TV series Two Guys and a Girl also in ABC and the For Your Love series in WB. Her Dancing in September was featured in the 2000 Sundance Film Festival.
In 2001, Constance Marie starred in the hit comedy show See Spot Run in 2001. In 2002, she starred on the PBS's American Family where she played Nina. This show became the most successful ever television series funded by PBS, CPB, and the Fox Television and distributed by the Twentieth Century Fox. She also starred as Angie, the wife of the standup comic, George Lopez in the sitcom The George Lopez Show in 2002. Constance won an Imagen award for Best Actress in a Television Comedy for her role in this TV series.
