Claire Danes attended Dalton School and the Professional Performing Arts School, which are both in New York. She continued her studies in an exclusive private high school, Lycee Fracais de Los Angeles in California. When Claire Danes decided to attend her father’s alma mater, Yale University and take up a psychology major, she ended up dropping out of Yale after two years to focus on her acting career.
In 1994, Claire Danes played the role of Angela Chase in the TV drama series, My So-called Life. According to Claire Danes, she had her first on-screen kiss in one of the episodes of My So-called Life even before she had one in real life. She received a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy nomination for her performance in the series. This role led her to the big screen, starting in the 1994 movie adaptation of Little Women. She also appeared in Jodie Foster’s movie, Home for the Holidays. However, it was in her role as Juliet in Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 movie, William Shakespeare’s Romea+Juliet that Claire Danes won a huge audience following.
In 1999, Claire Danes took a leading role in the movie, Brokendown Palaca, opposite Bill Pullman and Kate Beckinsale. She later starred in the 2002 movie “Igby Goes Down” costarring Susan Sarandon and Kieran Culkin. She also appeared with Meryl Streep in the film, The Hours” and later in the action film, “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines”. Claire Danes earned critical acclaim when she played the lead role in Steve Martin’s “Shopgirl” and “The Family Stone” opposite Diane Keaton and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Claire Danes and Australian singer, Ben Lee dated between 1997 and 2003. In 2004, she dated actor Billy Crudup, which resulted in bad publicity for both because Crudup had recently left longtime partner Mary-Louise Parker who was 7 months pregnant at the time. Claire Danes and Crudup eventually split up in December 2006. She also dated Andrew Dorff, Matt Damon and Hugh Dancy.
