Charisma attended the Gorman High School in Las Vegas. At the age of 15, her family transferred to Rosita City, Mexico where she got her education from Bonita High. When she graduated in 1988, she took classes at Chula Vista School of Creative and Performing Arts in spite of the fact that she will have travel for an hour from Mexico to San Diego. In high school, she would always sneak out from her parents so she could participate in cheerleading. Charisma was known to most people as someone who is very liberated.
Charisma Carpenter worked in different jobs to support her studies in college. She took the jobs of an aerobic instructor and a video store clerk. In 1991, she joined the cheerleading squad of San Diego Chargers.
Charisma Carpenter also became a waitress in Mirabelle Restaurant at Sunset Boulevard. Her desire to become an English teacher compelled her to work hard and save money. One day, her life had a major change when a commercial agent went to the restaurant where she’s working and spotted her. The agent saw she has potential and persuaded her to attend an acting school. Her search for the best acting school landed her to Playhouse West, one of the best acting schools in that are.
Charisma Carpenter stayed with Playhouse West for 18 months. She began to appear in various TV commercials which include her long stint in the Secret commercial. Charisma also took part in some theater productions such as No No No Nanette and Welcome Home Soldier. Her first acting break came to her in October 1994 when she appeared in Baywatch.
She caught the attention of Aaron Spelling in Baywatch and he personally auditioned her as Ashley on Malibu Shore (1996). However, Malibu Shore’s existence was short and after it was cancelled, Charisma was left jobless.
One day, Charisma Carpenter's agent contacted her and sent her for an audition in Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1997. She first auditioned for the lead role but it officially went to Sarah Michelle Gellar. She later auditioned for the part of Cornelia and she got that role. While Charisma was still in Buffy, a role for Angel was offered to her which she accepted. She then continued to portray snobby characters in different projects.
Charisma Carpenter is married to Damian Hardy and they have one son - Donovan Charles Hardy.
