She was born under the name of Caroline Trousselard, and she grew up in southern France. At a young age she has already discovered her love for acting, and thus began performing in local theater roles at the age of 11. As a teenager Caroline Ducey starred in the award-winning film Trop de Bonheur in 1994. She then studied at the Marseilles Conservatory and took up drama after graduating from high school. In order to further her studies as well as to secure more acting roles, Caroline Ducey then decided to move to Paris.
In Paris, Caroline Ducey was not immediately noticed by directors and casting executives, thus she was only able to earn bit roles on television shows and films. She was seen in the movie in Noël! Noël! as well as in Famille Je Vous Hais in 1997 and Innocent in 1998. Caroline Ducey then went in line and auditioned for the lead role in the film Romance, and after a careful selection on over 200 other hopeful actresses, she was finally chosen to take on the starring role on the movie, which was directed by Catherine Breillat.
In Romance, Caroline Ducey became the masochist protagonist Marie, who, because of her rabid frustrations over her sexual desires, took on more dangerous situations, among of which was having a sexual affair with her school’s headmaster. What caused a raucous though was the film’s explicit sex scenes which featured the hot, sexy actress performing a coitus with her co-star, Italian porn star Rocco Siffredi. Caroline Ducey admits that the storyline at first created a fear on her part, given that her role had to commit sexual acts in several scenes. However, she was able to conquer this emotional turmoil and eventually went on to give a raw, daring, honest yet sexy performance, which in the end garnered critical acclaim and box office success. Romance was soon released in the United States where it also became commercially and critically successful. It was soon hailed as the ‘most explicit non-porn film ever made’.
Caroline Ducey has now appeared in several French films and is now an established actress.
