Bo Derek was born in Long Beach, California on November 20, 1956. She has four siblings, and even as a child, she already received compliments for her astonishing looks. However, Bo Derek never imagined that she would be famous, for as she says, her main interest was the beach. She even thought of working in surf shop as she grew older. Her first modeling job started when she needed money to pay for a surfboard she has eyed for a long time back then.

After that fund-raising stint for her new surfboard, Bo Derek began landing on various modeling jobs, and eventually a role in a deodorant commercial. She was already making good money as a model however, Bo Derek realized that she wanted something more such that she ventured into the world of acting. She sought for acting jobs and in one particular audition, she met and fell in love with director John Derek.

At the age of 16, Bo Derek dated John Derek who was 30 years older than her. Since she was still a minor, she and John Derek flew off to Germany so that he would not be charged for statutory rape. The romance continued to blossom for a couple more years, and finally, when Bo Derek reached 18, they married and went back to the United States.

Bo Derek strived to earn a career as an actress, and finally she grabbed a significant role in the film Orca, opposite Richard Harris. The film was critically panned and did badly at the box office; however, this led Bo Derek to more offers for increasingly high-profile projects. In 1979 Bo Derek starred in her second movie 10, a sex comedy co-starring Dudley Moore. Not only did she emerge as a bona fide star; Bo Derek also led a new fashion with her cornrows hairstyle. Her subsequent films resulted to be flops though, most of which directed by her husband. In 1980, Bo Derek posed for Playboy Magazine, her photographs shot by no less than her husband.

After her infamous movie Bolero, Bo Derek took a hiatus in the movie biz. In 1995, she made a successful comeback in Tommy Boy alongside David Spade and Chris Farley. Her career was already going well then, however, she became busy taking care of her ailing husband until his death due to heart problems in 1998. Bo Derek now took on roles as a ‘hot momma’, making guest appearances on TV shows such as 7th Heaven and Still Standing, and the movie Malibu’s Most Wanted.

Bo Derek recently landed on a role in the nighttime drama Fashion House opposite Morgan Fairchild. She is currently involved with actor John Corbett.
