Asia Argento was born on September 20, 1975 in Rome, Italy. She was born under the name of Asia Aria Anna Maria Vittoria Rossa Argento, but since the City of Rome’s register office refused to acknowledge the name Asia regarding it to be inappropriate, she was inscribed as Aria Argento. However, she still uses the name Asia Argento professionally.

She is born to a family of entertainers, both in front and behind the camera. Asia Argento’s mother is actress Daria Nicolodi while her father is the renowned director, producer and screenwriter Dario Argento. Her father has been well known for his influence and support for modern horror and slasher films in Italy. At nine years old, Asia Argento made her film debut in the film Sogni e bisogni, in 1984. Four years later, she took on the lead role in Zoo, which was directed by Cristina Comencini, as wel as Chiesa, La, by Michele Soavi.

When she was 16, Asia Argento became involved in her father’s works, particularly the famed horror flick Trauma. In the film, she plays the role of an anorexic young girl in search of her parents’ murderer. It was also the first film where she appeared nude. The film was well received by critics and audiences and became an entry to the Cannes International Film Festival. Asia Argento continued to work with her father in his other films as well as with other directors including Michele Placido’s Amiche del cuore, Le, where she was able to transform herself from a sweet teenager to a serious adult actress.

Asia Argento also made films in different languages such as English and French. In 1994 she starred in the film La Reine Margot, and in 1998 she appeared in movies including B. Monkey and New Rose Hotel opposite Christopher Walken. During this time Asia Argento has already explored the world of filmmaking, first by doing short films and a documentary on her father. In 2000, she wrote and directed her first movie entitled Scarlet Diva, which was followed by The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things.

Asia Argento is as well a talented author of short stories; most of them were already published in magazines such as Dynamo, Sette, L’Espresso, and Village. She has also finished her first novel entitled I Love You Kirk, which was published by Frassinelli Editrice in Italy in October 1999 and by Florent Massot in France in 2001.

Asia Argento has a daughter named Anna Lou, born in 2001, to Italian musician Marco Castoldi.
