Anne was raised in New Jersey and attended Millburn High School, where she participated in school plays. Then she went to Vassar College in New York, attending several semesters before transferring to Gallatin School of Individualized Study of New York University. There she became a member of the Barrow Group Theatre Company. She was the first teenager admitted and trained by the program.
She first started acting in 1997 Get Real television series. But her first big role was in 2001’s The Princes Diaries produced by Disney. This made her famous and soon she was offered other similar roles and appeared in Ella Enchanted and in reprised her role in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Both films were released in 2004 and both were big hits.
The following year, she accepted more challenging roles and appeared in Havoc and in Brokeback Mountain. Both films required her to have nude scenes but they did not stain her good image. The following year she appeared in "The Devil Wears Prada" opposite Meryl Streep. The film was a big hit and once again fans loved her performance. In 2006, she was named by People Magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People and played Jane Austen in the 2007 film "Becoming Jane".
Aside from acting and performing, Anne enjoys reading and designing. She used to spend most of her free time reading before she got involve in charity works. Her current boyfriend is Raffaello Follieri who is a very successful real estate developer.
Despite moving away from the Catholic faith, Anne is still very religious and her Catholic upbringing still plays an important role in her life. When her boyfriend Raffaello created the Follieri Foundation, a foundation giving assistance and help to children in third world nations, Anne became involved in charity works and plans to continue helping those in need in any way she can.
