Amy Jo Johnson was born in Dennis, Cape Cod, Massachussetts on October 6, 1970. Her mother managed a clothing store while her father was a car salesman. She first expressed deep interest in gymnastics and soon began training at the age of 7. Because of her hard work and discipline for the sport, Amy Jo Johnson was able to make it to the pinnacle of gymnastics and even decided on going to the Olympics. She as already competed in international events and was on her way to becoming a star gymnast when she suffered an injury when she was 17. She was not able to go back to competitive gymnastics since then.

Amy Jo Johnson graduated at the Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School at the age of 18. She then moved to New York and pursued and acting career. She studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and the American Musical and Acting Academy. Afterwards she left for Los Angeles to fill the role that would open her doors to immediate fame-as Kimberly Hart in the hit action series, Mighty Morphin Pwer Rangers.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers achieved worldwide success and a huge fan base coming from children, thus makling Amy Jo Johnson a star. After two years in the series, she left the show in 1995 and went on to star in the TV movie Susie Q. She also made guest appearances in Saved by the Bell: The New Class and Killing Mr. Griffin. She as well played a bulimic gymnast in the film Perfect Body. In 1997, Amy Jo Johnson reprised her role in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, where her character was sacrificed on a volcano.

The following years gave Amy Jo Johnson more mature roles and be finished with her superhero image. In 1998, she took a part in the cult film Cold Hearts. In the same year, Amy Jo Johnson was cast in the hit drama series Felicity, playing best friend to the title character portrayed by Keri Russell. She stayed on the series for almost three years. Her character was initially that of a dancer, but she managed to convince the show’s producers that it would be much better to turn the role as a singer and guitarist. Amy Jo Johnson was able to compose a song for the series, and it was included in the show’s soundtrack.

Amy Jo Johnson was also involved in indie movies, appearing on films such as Interstate 60, Hard Ground, and Pursuit of Happiness. She also co-stared in the sci-fi TV movie, Magma: Volcanic Disaster, which was followed by a recurring role in the series What About Brian.
