Fate was not really that good for Amber Smith while she was in Europe. She was alone, lonely and tongue-tied because of language barriers, and she kept on being rejected in the modeling auditions she went to. Amber Smith continued her struggle for four years traveling in different parts of Europe, until finally landed on a breakthrough stint-and that was when she dyed her hair red, in order to highlight her slight resemblance to Hollywood icon Rita Hayworth.
Amber Smith's career went on full bloom as she posed on back to back issues of Sports Illustrated Swimwear Edition. She was also hailed as the first Vargas Girl of the 90s on Esquire magazine, and became the image model for Wonder Bra. This was followed by covers on Max, Vogue, Elle, and various fashion magazines as well as advertising campaigns for Buffalo Jeans, L'Oreal Cosmetics and Panama Jacks. Amber Smith also trailed the runway for the likes of Chanel and Jean Paul Gautlier, among many others. Finally she transformed from being a fashion model to a sex symbol, when Amber Smith posed nude for Playboy Magazine. That resulted to her being on the list of Playboy, Celebrity Sleuth, Celebrity Skin, and High Society's list of Sexiest Stars in 1995.
Amber Smith took over the acting world by starring in two European TV specials. The first one was entitled Inferno, which was directed by Ellen Von Unwerth, and her self-titled Forever Amber. After being cast for the lead role in movies such as The Mask and Casino, Amber Smith underwent yet another transformation: from being a supermodel to a full-time actress.
Amber Smith then landed on roles in another line of films including Paul Mazursky's Faithful, Abel Ferrara's The Funeral, and Barbra Streisand's The Mirror Has Two Faces. She also took on the role of Rita Hayworth in L.A. Confidential in 1997, which earned high critical acclaim. Amber Smith continued to stride with guest appearances in Friends, Just Shoot Me, and Head Over Heels. She as well became regularly seen on television when she hosted Access Hollywood. She didn't forget about her first love though, as she continued to pose for photographers and grace fashion events as the years went by.
